Executive Director of Foundation and Fiscal Operations
Tennessee State University Office of Foundation and Fiscal Operations invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Foundation and Fiscal Operations. This senior leadership position provides strategic oversight and operational management for the financial administration of the Tennessee State University Foundation and related fiscal operations that support institutional advancement and philanthropic initiatives.
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the integrity, transparency, and compliance of foundation financial activities while supporting the University's mission through effective stewardship of philanthropic assets. The role collaborates closely with the Division of Fiscal Affairs, University Advancement, and the Tennessee State University Foundation Board to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning for foundation resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Foundation Financial Administration
- Provide leadership and oversight for all financial operations associated with the Tennessee State University Foundation.
- Ensure proper stewardship, accounting, and monitoring of philanthropic funds including endowments, restricted gifts, and donor-designated accounts.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls related to foundation financial management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations governing nonprofit and higher education financial practices.
Fiscal Management and Reporting
- Direct preparation and review of financial statements, reports, and reconciliations for foundation accounts.
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and analysis related to foundation assets and expenditures.
- Coordinate annual audits, financial reviews, and regulatory filings associated with foundation operations.
- Ensure accurate integration of foundation transactions with university financial systems.
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on fiscal matters related to foundation assets and philanthropic resources.
- Support institutional initiatives by identifying opportunities to maximize the impact of foundation funding.
- Implement best practices in higher education, foundation finance, governance, and risk management.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure adherence to university policies, donor agreements, and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard institutional and donor assets.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to the Tennessee State University Foundation Board.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary fiscal liaison between the University and the TSU Foundation.
- Work collaboratively with Institutional Advancement to support fundraising initiatives and donor reporting.
- Partner with Accounting, Budget, Sponsored Programs, and Legal Affairs to support institutional financial operations.
Personnel Management
- Supervise and mentor professional staff supporting foundation fiscal operations.
- Establish performance expectations and operational priorities for assigned personnel.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and financial stewardship.
Transformation Management
- Serve as the Project Manager for the Foundation and Alumni Giving model transformation.
- Execute the reorganization of roles and responsibilities to support the new operating model.
