Extra Help (900-hour temporary) Building Service Worker
Description
This is a temporary assignment that will end at the discretion of the department or when funding or hours are exhausted.
Governors State University is seeking an Extra Help (900-hour temporary) Building Service Worker applicants for the Facilities Development & Management department.
Under direct supervision performs the following custodial services and maintenance of assigned buildings:
- Vacuum and clean the carpet.
- Collect trash and recyclables and place in appropriate dumpster.
- Clean and disinfect, classrooms, common areas, restrooms and restock.
- Mop, sweep, scrub and wax floors and other surfaces.
- Wash windows, door glass and interior glass.
- Clean, dust and wax furniture exhibit cases, fixtures, windowsills, doors, trim and related items
- Operate automatic scrubbers and sweepers.
- Report equipment in need of repair to supervisor staff.
- Remove snow and provide salt at all building entrances.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Perform special clean-ups when requested due to accidents or emergencies.
Essential Responsibilities
Work Environment
- Tasks that involve possible exposure to bodily fluids, blood and/or tissue which require the wearing of protective gear such as gloves and/or safety glasses.
- Perform snow removal in cold temperatures.
Physical Demands
- Employee must be ambulatory with full use of their extremities in order to perform the following duties:
- Mop, vacuum, shovel snow, agile-lift garbage bags, clean in corners and operate machinery.
- Able to lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend, squat, carry, push and climb.
- Employee must be able to hear (can be hearing impaired not deaf) in order to hear machinery operating (i.e. floor scrubber, vacuum and snow blower); must be able to visibly read labels and safely perform general cleaning.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have the ability to comprehend basic written and verbal instructions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Illinois driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in the actual work; skills in using cleaning equipment.
- Ability to comprehend and execute basic written and verbal instructions.
Supplemental Information
- The hourly rate of pay is $17.39.
- Work Schedule: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Monday - Friday with a 30-minute lunch break.
