Job Description
The School of Education invites applications for a 9-month Clinical Instructor for Teacher Preparation in the Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education (EESE) Department. A review of applications will begin on January 20, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. This position opened on December 17, 2025 and there is a five consecutive workdays minimum posting requirement.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to provide direct, intensive supervision for teacher candidates in K-12 partner schools during their field experiences, including student teaching and clinical practicums, conduct regular site visits to observe candidates teaching, offer constructive feedback, and assess their performance using established program rubrics and state/national standards, facilitate seminar sessions and group discussions with assigned candidates to bridge theory and practice, address current classroom challenges, and reflect on their professional growth, serve as the primary liaison between the School of Education, the teacher candidate, and the cooperating/mentor teacher, evaluate candidate performance for program completion and certification readiness, collaborate with the Director of Clinical Experiences and Student Services and program coordinators to ensure candidates are assigned to appropriate school settings, assist in the recruitment, training, and support of cooperating/mentor teachers, contribute to the continuous improvement of the clinical experience component of the teacher preparation programs, and participate in department, college, and university service activities as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- An earned master’s degree in education or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a certified P-12 classroom teacher.
- Valid State of Virginia teaching license/certification
Additional Considerations
- A record of successful clinical supervision and/or mentorship of pre-service or in-service teachers.
- Experience supervising student teachers at the university level.
- Evidence of working successfully with diverse student populations and within urban/rural school settings.
- Familiarity with state teacher performance standards and accreditation processes (e.g., CAEP, State Department of Education requirements).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders (candidates, teachers, administrators).
