Essential Job Duties:
Join the team that helps keep the campus of North Carolina State University running smoothly every day. As part of the External Operations team, this position plays a key role in maintaining and supporting the technology and infrastructure that powers campus parking and transportation systems.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and working across a large and dynamic campus environment. The successful candidate will help maintain essential systems that serve thousands of students, faculty, staff, and visitors each day.
What You'll Do:
In this role, you will support the electrical and technical maintenance of 10 parking decks and more than 180 parking lots and locations across the university's Main and Centennial campuses. In this role you also must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. occasionally, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Key responsibilities include:
Parking Systems Maintenance
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the university's complex parking gate access systems.
- Support and maintain the License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, including static camera systems across campus.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on parking revenue control equipment and assist with the installation of new parking access technologies.
Electrical & Lighting Systems
- Perform electrical maintenance and repairs for parking deck lighting systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting and installing electrical components related to parking infrastructure.
Facilities & Infrastructure Support
- Perform maintenance duties related to parking lot and deck upkeep, including parking signage and infrastructure.
- Install and maintain parking signs and related equipment throughout campus.
- Operate and maintain digital sign creation software and equipment used for parking and traffic management.

Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Clean and maintain parking lots and decks.
- Identify and inform supervisor of potential maintenance issues.
- Maintain and clean Wolfline Bus Shelters.
- Maintain all painted parking spaces, street markings and painted curbs that are under jurisdiction of Transportation.
- Clean up parking areas during/after inclement weather including snow and ice removal, debris removal and application of ice melting products.
- Inspect and maintain equipment including skid steer, blower, sweeper, power washer, paint striper, etc.
- Inspect parking areas and report damage to supervisor.
- This position will actively participate in the on-call program, carrying a pager

Minimum Experience/Education:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of or ability to learn to design and make signs using sign software and hardware.
- Skills to identify and inform supervisor of potential maintenance issues.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn External Operation's work order program.
- Ability to explain purpose and procedures in terminology easily understood by others.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn customer service best practices allowing position to communicate in a professional manner when dealing with the public to solve issues.
- Knowledge and skills or ability to learn to operate equipment including: dump trucks, loaders and fork lifts.
- Knowledge and skills or ability to learn to use tools including: blowers, paint stripers, saws, drills and various hand power tools.
- Knowledge of computers and programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs occasionally, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skills to identify and inform supervisor of potential maintenance issues.
- Knowledge and skills or ability to learn to use tools and equipment including: blowers, paint stripers, saws, drills, various hand power tools and heavy operating equipment.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn External Operation's work order program.
- Knowledge of parking equipment and control software and ability to install and repair this equipment.
- Demonstrated relevant experience in technical/mechanical trades.
Required license or certification:
- Valid driver's license required.
- A valid North Carolina driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of start date.
