Hunt Jr. Library, and branch libraries for design, natural resources, and veterinary medicine.
The Operations, Logistics, & Environments (OLE) department (9 staff members), provides building maintenance, operational support, resource management, and event/exhibit assistance for the D. H. Hill Jr. Library, James B. Hunt Jr. Library, and Administrative Services Annex (ASX), with some of these services extended to the three branch libraries (Design, Natural Resources, and Veterinary Medicine). Collectively, these library spaces welcome over 2.1 million visitors per year, and OLE staff ensure that they are always clean, safe, and well maintained.
Essential Job Duties
This position serves as one of five Facility Maintenance Technicians for the library system, providing safe, clean, well-maintained environments in support of learning, research, collections, technology access, and a wide range of activities and events in the D.H. Hill Jr. Library, the James B. Hunt Jr. Library, and the Satellite Shelving Facility. This position’s primary location will be at the Hill Library, but they serve all of the Libraries’ physical spaces.
- Performs skilled work in repairs, maintenance, construction, renovation, and related projects.
- Identifies facilities-related maintenance, life safety, and building security problems in assigned buildings and implements standard courses of action to correct problems within established timeframes.
- Performs daily checks and troubleshoots issues to maintain safe, clean, welcoming environments, including furniture placement; stair, aisle, and corridor clearances; elevator operation; door security; lighting operation; restroom cleanliness; and supplies stock.
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance schedules, performs preventative maintenance, ensures proper functioning of access control and video surveillance systems, and ensures proper functioning of the bookBot at the Hunt Library (automated materials storage and retrieval system).
- Participates on work teams that may include external contractors, vendors, and subcontractors, as well as other campus personnel; oversees renovation and repair projects. Trains temporary staff in job functions.
- Organizes, maintains, and keeps current inventory of library assets held in storage.
- Responds to internal customer work requests. Performs office moves, event setups, and special projects as assigned.
- Operates and maintains cargo van.
- Splits time between the Hill and Hunt Libraries; based at Hill primarily.

- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to coordinate, inspect, and troubleshoot general repairs and maintenance such as painting, patching walls, shelving and furniture installation.
- Experience with journey-level trades including carpentry, and minor work in plumbing and electrical.
- Ability to provide excellent public service to support the information and learning needs of students and other library users in a college/university setting.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with strong attention to detail and the capacity to prioritize and problem-solve.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, including the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
