Position Summary
Facility operations assistant performs the duties of cleaners to include a variety of routine manual tasks that require light to heavy physical effort. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas within residence halls, academic buildings, and the surrounding campus grounds and sidewalks. Major Responsibilities
General Cleaning and Maintenance
- Perform a variety of routine manual work under supervision.
- Use mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside of buildings, etc.
- Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to strip, vacuum, and wax floors, and shampoo carpets.
- Use hand-dusting equipment to dust assigned areas.
- Use designated equipment to polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
- Use hand-operated equipment and detergents to scrub and clean all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, etc.
Safety and Hazard Removal
- Pick up and remove any hazardous items from floors, furniture, and equipment, and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
Furniture and Equipment
- Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions.
- Move furniture within building for office moves
Lighting and High Areas
- Use appropriate equipment such as ladders and scaffolds to clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs in high places.
Event and Facility Support
- Set up furniture and equipment in assigned areas, such as athletic fields, gymnasiums, and conference or meeting rooms, as needed.
Outdoor and Seasonal Tasks
- Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to occasionally remove snow and to clean sidewalks, yards, and driveways.
Facility Operations
- Assist grounds in snow removal in winter months and weeding garden beds in summer months
- Assist maintenance in basic summer/winter maintenance to including but not limited to painting within dormitories, repair furniture, and hang items
- On occasion work under direct supervision of an Electrician, plumber, carpenter, or mason to assist and gain experience in different trades
- Fill in for absent employees within your assigned zone
Required Qualifications
There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be able to routinely perform moderate to heavy physical labor and lift up to 40 lbs., read and interpret product labels and simple instruction, routinely climb stairs and possess the ability to kneel, bend, stoop, reach, climb ladders, and work from heights.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous cleaning and/or labor type work experience preferred.
