Position Overview

The Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation (CIII), Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology and The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus OH, under the direction of Dr. Glen Barber, seeks outstanding scientists in the areas of innate immunology with emphasis in immuno-oncology including inflammation associated cancer. Applicants with interests in dendritic cell biology, innate immunity of the central nervous system and/or translational innate immune research to improve cancer treatment outcomes are encouraged.

Applicants for full-time, tenure-track appointments at all ranks must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, post-doctoral experience, excellent communication skills and a record of productivity in innate immunology. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have a substantial trajectory toward developing a rigorous, externally-funded research program. Candidates at the Professor and Associate Professor level should have a national scientific reputation, current research funding and a history of mentorship and leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements and conducts research studies; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support research program; obtains and maintains NIH R01 or equivalent funding;
  • Writes and publishes research in high quality peer reviewed, scientific journals; attends and makes presentations of research at national and international scientific conferences; develops national and international scholarly reputation;
  • Instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participates in department, college and university committees and initiatives.

Requirements

  • PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field
  • Established record of research in Innate Immunity and Inflammation
  • Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in scientific, peer-reviewed journals preferred
  • Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01)
  • Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

The Department of Surgery, led by Dr. Timothy Pawlik, boasts a broad array of clinical, research and educational opportunities. The department is home to multiple R01 funded researchers, several training grants, and with over $15.5M in NIH funding, was ranked #11 in the Blue Ridge Rankings among departments of surgery nationally. Our investigators collectively occupy over 25,000 square feet of laboratory space within and around the medical center campus.

The Division of Surgical Oncology provides excellence in clinical cancer care; educates medical students, residents and fellows; and conducts internationally recognized clinical and basic research. Our surgical specialists and subspecialists offer the most current research-based surgical treatment techniques from complex open surgery to minimally invasive robotic procedures to provide individualized care in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams of cancer experts as part of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC James).
