Faculty Military Coordinator (Part-Time)

Budgeted Salary Range: $90,909 to $107,500 per year DOE

SALARY: $90,909 to $107,500 per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

BENEFITS: RVU offers a full benefits package that includes Health, Dental and Vision insurance, along with 2 weeks (minimum) accrued paid vacation days per year, 12 accrued sick days per year, personal days, 13 ½ paid holidays and 401(K) match up to 7% based on employee's contribution.

Primary Purpose

The Faculty Military Coordinator will preferably be located on the Montana campus and interface with the Military Medicine Program at RVU. Their primary purpose is to co-coordinate the development, implementation, delivery, and assessment of military medicine-related curriculum and career match process during the OMS-III and OMS-IV medical student training. The faculty member mentors and advocates for RVU-MCOM student participants in the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) in collaboration with the RVU Military Medicine Program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide career advising for students as they explore specialties, maximize their application portfolios, and assist students in creating an optimal strategy for application to the military match and/or post-graduate residency training.
  • Collaborate with Preclinical/Student Affairs Career and Professional Development Counselor to assist in the transition to clinical training.
  • Help students strategically and timely prepare audition and residency applications. This includes helping students learn residency program search and networking skills using national and regional search platforms and resources, as well as understanding timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other administrators and faculty to incorporate military medicine content (as appropriate) in other RVU activities.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with current and former military officers who might serve as educators, mentors, and provide pathways to residency for military students.
  • Participate in RVU military medicine curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement, consistent with medical training and expertise.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including original research, authorship, presentations at conferences, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities.
  • Provide service to the university community and students by serving on COM and department committees, providing leadership, mentorship and expertise to students, participating in community outreach events with professional organizations or groups as assigned by the Clinical Dean.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Dean.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Military career training track and match process.
  • Demonstrate time management skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of University and College Policy and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Clinical Education Manual.
  • Knowledge of student services and activities.
  • Demonstrations of professional involvement and leadership.
  • Demonstrations of scholarly activity, research, service to public or profession.
  • Well known and reputable in the medical community.
  • Demonstrations of professional involvement and leadership in medical organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • D.O. or M.D. degree earned from an AOA or LCME accredited college of osteopathic or allopathic medicine.
  • AOA or ABMS board certification at some point in their career.
  • One (1) - three (3) years of experience in medical education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintenance of a medical license.
  • Four (4) - six (6) years of experience in medical education.
  • Previous work experience in a medical school.
