Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in philosophy or in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Philosophy. The candidate will have excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, as well as basic computer literacy.
Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of compassion, equity, accountability, innovation and excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
Post master’s level work in Philosophy. Academic preparation and teaching experience in all areas of Philosophy including world religions, ethics, and logic. Community College teaching experience. Experience working with culturally diverse students. Ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Job Summary
The Full-time Philosophy Instructor will teach Philosophy courses to a diverse student population. The Instructor will participate in faculty committees and perform other duties related to teaching at a community college. The Instructor must stay abreast of ongoing developments, trends, and issues in instruction in the community college environment. The responsibilities and duties of the instructor may change as the needs of the college arise.
Specific Job Duties
- Instruct students on the facts, skills, and appreciations pertaining to the assigned courses.
- Consider the needs of the students and assist them by seeking help from other college services.
- Distribute to all students a course syllabus that covers the class requirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements, and course objectives, and to post said syllabus to the Learning Management System ( LMS ).
- Inform students of educational and occupational opportunities.
- Assist the Dean and other administrators in the development of the curriculum, in the preparation of the outlines and selection of textbooks.
- Submit midterm and final grade reports, retention alerts, attendance records, and any other reports pertaining to the assigned courses.
- Participate in college committee(s).
- Participate in accreditation/assessment activities
- Participate in academic advising.
- Stay abreast on ongoing developments, trends and issues in Philosophy instruction at the community college.
- Develop an annual professional development plan.
- Perform other duties as outlined in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
