Faculty Position in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology
The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. We seek outstanding candidates working in basic and/or translational research in host–microbe interactions and immunology, with a strong emphasis on molecular approaches that advance our understanding of disease mechanisms.
Ideal applicants will have a collaborative, interactive research program that complements and strengthens departmental and institutional priorities, and a demonstrated potential to secure independent extramural funding. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: basic molecular and cell biology of pathogenic microbes; microbial pathogenesis; host immune responses to pathogens; chemical and lipid biology; drug development at the host-pathogen interface; and cancer-microbe interactions. We welcome applicants studying relevant pathogens (e.g., bacteria, viruses, fungi and/or parasites), as well as innate and adaptive immune responses. We also encourage applications from physician-scientists, including those interested in clinical appointments across departments or units.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, with a strong record of publication. The successful applicant will develop an independent, vibrant research program, collaborate effectively with current investigators, and contribute to teaching and service. OHSU offers a highly interactive research environment with access to outstanding core facilities, including advanced imaging, cryo-electron microscopy, proteomics, metabolomics, flow cytometry, and more. Microbiology and immunology research at OHSU is a highly collaborative environment that spans the entire University, including but not limited to the Division of Infectious Diseases, the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VTGI), and the School of Dentistry. OHSU provides a strong foundation for clinical and translational research through support mechanisms such as the Pharmacokinetics Core, the Center for Experimental Therapeutics, and the NIH-funded Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI). Joint appointments in other OHSU Departments/Institutes/Schools will be considered on an individual basis.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages) for Requisition 2026-39006 directly through the online job posting, or at <https://www.ohsu.edu/jobs>. Additionally, all applicants should arrange to have three confidential letters of reference sent directly to mmisearch@ohsu.edu. Applications are not complete until the letters of reference are received. Completed applications will be reviewed beginning July 1, 2026, however the position will remain open until filled.
