Faculty Position in Work and Organization Studies

The Work and Organization Studies (WOS) group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School located in Cambridge, MA is hiring a tenure-track faculty member to start July 1, 2026, or as soon thereafter as possible. The faculty member’s teaching and research should focus on work, employment, and organizational issues. The rank is open, and junior and senior candidates at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor levels will be considered.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching courses and conducting research related to Work and Organization Studies. WOS has current teaching needs in courses on organizational processes, power and influence, as well as other courses on work, employment, and organizational issues.

At the Assistant Professor level, candidates must possess a Ph.D. in a field related to Work and Organization Studies, such as Sociology, Organizational Behavior, Industrial Relations, Social Psychology, Political Science, or Economics, at the start of employment. At the Associate Professor and Full Professor levels, a Ph.D. and demonstrated research expertise is required.

The WOS group is part of the Behavioral and Policy Sciences Area, one of three major academic areas at Sloan. The WOS faculty is interdisciplinary. WOS research approaches may include quantitative, computational social science, ethnographic, field based, and/or lab based. WOS builds on the traditions of Organization Studies and the Institute for Work and Employment Research and has Ph.D. programs in both areas.

Please submit applications electronically at <https://apply.interfolio.com/170634> providing a cover letter outlining interests and experience, a current CV, research and teaching statements, and one or two papers that indicate your research focus and capabilities. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted via this link; applicants at the Associate and Full Professor levels will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation if they are advanced to the finalist stage. Applications will be reviewed as received but are due no later than September 5, 2025.

MIT is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a culturally diverse and pluralistic intellectual community and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check, including verifying any finding of misconduct (or pending investigation) from prior employers. Questions should be addressed to SloanSearchMaster@mit.edu.
