Faculty: Student Academic Achievement Coach
Position Overview
The Nursing Student Academic Achievement Coach plays a pivotal role in supporting nursing students throughout their academic and professional development. This position is responsible for providing individualized coaching, academic support, and clinical skills and simulation performance remediation to help students overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve their educational goals in nursing. Key performance indicators will be student retention, progression, and graduation rates. The full-time associated position reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the College of Nursing.
Performance Objectives
- Provide one-on-one and group coaching sessions to nursing students to help students develop effective study habits, time management, and clinical reasoning.
- In collaboration with leadership, develop a framework to identify at-risk students.
- Monitor academic progress and program requirements to intervene early with at-risk students in collaboration with leadership and faculty.
- Create and monitor peer nursing tutor programs.
- Design and implement remediation plans for students who do not meet clinical or simulation performance benchmarks.
- Utilize a variety of simulation modalities for student achievement.
- Facilitate structured pre-briefing and debriefing sessions using evidence-based models (e.g., PEARLS, Debriefing for Meaningful Learning) to help students reflect on performance and integrate feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions, achievement outcomes, and academic progress.
- Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching and simulation-based achievement strategies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with course and simulation faculty to align remediation with course objectives and clinical competencies.
- Connect students with academic, financial, mental health, and career resources, as indicated.
- Serve as a liaison between students and faculty to resolve concerns and advocate for student needs.
- Analyze data to identify trends and recommend programmatic improvements.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of student achievement initiatives, workshops, and events.
- Collaborate closely with advisors and student affairs team to ensure student success.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- Masters degree required.
+ If the masters degree is not in nursing, a bachelor's degree in nursing is required. - Active unencumbered RN license.
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in clinical practice and nursing education, or an equivalent combination of relevant clinical, educational, or academic support experience.
- Experience working with student populations and understanding of the challenges faced by nursing students.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in simulation pedagogy, clinical skills assessment, and debriefing techniques.
- Familiarity with simulation technologies and virtual simulation platforms.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Proficiency in using learning management platforms. Organizational skills.
Desired:
- Doctoral degree and masters in nursing preferred.
Additional Information:
Available as needed to attend early morning, evening or weekend events based on college needs. Due to the nature of the role, this position is not remote/hybrid.
