Our Program and Who We Are Looking For

Portland Community College’s Veterinary Technology (VT) program is a regional leader in educating the next generation of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT). We are currently looking for a full time faculty member who has excellent knowledge and experience, can balance academic rigor with practical application, and is passionate about teaching/training learners from diverse backgrounds.

The VT Program, located at the Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus, offers a 2-year associate’s degree that provides face-to-face didactic courses, hands-on skills labs, and clinical rotations to prepare students for the national certifying exam (Veterinary Technician National Examination) and a career as a veterinary technician. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits including healthcare coverage, a pension plan, and tuition benefits. The position will start September 2026 and we encourage candidates without formal teaching experience to apply!

The timeline for hiring is: first round interviews in early March and second round interviews in April.

Position Success Criteria:

In addition to the minimum instructor qualifications, we are seeking candidates that meet the following success criteria. Throughout the screening process, candidates will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience successfully adapting practices (in teaching, training or communicating) to include a wide range of cultural knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Brings a strong understanding of the rigors of veterinary practice and the ability to translate real-world clinical experience into meaningful, engaging learning for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with transparency and respect, values feedback, and demonstrates a clear commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Possesses clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating small animal species, with experience or willingness to learn large animal diagnostics and treatment.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn managing compliance with regulatory bodies such as the DEA, USDA, and IACUC.

Position Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree plus veterinary licensure in the State of Oregon by the Oregon Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, or license-eligible with license acquired prior to initial teaching assignment.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity. The highest step of the range is step 17, ($118,558) Please review the salary schedule here.
