Position: The Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education position in the Mathematics Department. Preferred start date August 2027. Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Mathematics Education, Mathematics (with significant work experience in Mathematics Education), Curriculum and Instruction (with focus in Mathematics Education), or a closely related field, before August 15, 2027. Candidates should have a strong research background, potential for external funding, and excellent teaching. Candidates in all mathematics education specialties (including elementary, middle school, secondary, and undergraduate mathematics education) are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities: Assistant Professors are assigned an instructional workload of five course units (three credit hours each) per academic year. Faculty members in mathematics education teach a broad spectrum of courses throughout the undergraduate curriculum and in the Master’s degree program in Mathematics Education. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching is essential. The successful candidate will establish a productive research program with a willingness to pursue external funding opportunities. The department is strongly committed to teacher preparation and undergraduate research. The Department: The Department of Mathematics has 58 full-time faculty and over 130 math majors. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, with concentrations in Secondary Education, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, and Pure Mathematics, as well as Master’s degrees in Mathematics Education, Actuarial Science and Predictive Analytics, and Applied and Industrial Mathematics. The Secondary Education concentration is offered in partnership with Towson UTeach, Maryland’s leader in STEM teacher education.
