Fellowship Director (Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry) - SMS-3297
The incumbent will function as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry Division of Child Psychiatry, reporting to the Chief of the Division of Child Psychiatry. The incumbent will serve as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, providing the administrative oversight necessary to maintain an accredited fellowship training program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The incumbent will actively participate in the delivery of instructional activities to students, residents, fellows and allied health professionals, and in service, research and clinical activities as delineated.
15% Administration
– Serve as Fellowship Director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, assuring compliance with all ACGME standards.
– Perform all administrative duties associated with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program, including: strategic planning, budget allocation, materials selection, development of policies and procedures, and continuous auditing and monitoring of quality control procedures for the program.
– Coordinate fellow recruitment and provide professional supervision of fellows.
– Advise fellowship coordinator and his/her assignments.
– Perform administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the Medical School and the Chair of Psychiatry, and attend administrative School and Department meetings as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.
– Represent the department and school on national, state, regional, community, medical school and department committees.
25% Education:
– Provide ongoing fellowship curriculum development and oversee implementation of that curriculum.
– Coordinate off-site fellowship experiences.
– Participate in seminar series for residents and fellows.
– Mentor senior residents as needed.
– Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals in the discipline of psychiatry. This includes participation in and direction of formal and informal rounds, conferences, seminars, and supervision.
– Participate in Grand Rounds and other institutional educational activities.
10% Scholarship and Research
– Oversee fellowship research activities to assure fellows are involved in research project and maintain satisfactory progress.
– Maintain up-to-date medical and psychiatric knowledge in the area of specialty.
– Publish at least one (1) research paper in peer-reviewed journal every five (5) years (education research preferred).
– Maintain certification per Springfield Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (SCRIHS).
50% Clinical Service
– Maintain professional practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy, emphasizing areas needed for fellowship accreditation.
– Provide and supervise clinical experiences for fellows as needed.
– Supervise general psychiatry residents during their Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinical rotations.
– Participate in call and absence coverage as assigned.
1. Must have an MD or DO degree
2. Must be board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with experience in education leadership
3. Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois
4. Must meet qualifications of Fellowship Program Director as set forth by the Psychiatry Residency Review Committee of ACGME
5. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
