The incumbent will function as a faculty member in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, Division of Medicine Psychiatry. The incumbent will provide psychiatric services in SIU Psychiatry and/or Internal Medicine locations including but not limited to Springfield and Jacksonville SIU Clinics, partnering agencies, and hospital services at Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. John's Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center on an inpatient or outpatient basis as needed for residency training needs. The ability to provide ECT is essential. The incumbent will provide clinical and didactic training and establish lines of scholarship. The incumbent will serve as the Internal Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program Director. The incumbent will be responsible for active participation in the development and delivery of instructional activities to students, residents, and allied health professionals and for service and research functions related to specialty interest and expertise.

35% TEACHING

Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students, residents and fellows in the discipline of Psychiatry. This includes participation in and direction of formal rounds, conferences, and seminars: leadership and instruction during formal and informal clinic, outpatient and inpatient. Ensures the clinical teaching of residents and students on the clinical services occurs effectively.

Development and oversight of clinical and didactic educational experiences for Medicine-Psychiatry residents. Collaborate with Program Directors in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry to ensure educational goals of Medicine Psychiatry trainees are achieved.

Serve as mentor with second year student small group during neuroscience block once every five (5) years.

Participate in residency didactics in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine as assigned.

Present at Grand Rounds or Interdisciplinary conferences.

Provide clinical supervision to residents in Medicine/Psychiatry, Psychiatry and/or Internal Medicine.

Moderate Resident Journal Club and case conferences as needed.

Serve as a mentor for psychiatry clerkship as needed.

Serve as a moderator for psychiatry Student Journal Club as needed.

60% SERVICE (PATIENT CARE)

Maintain professional outpatient practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy.

Provide inpatient and/or consultation-liaison coverage at HSHS St. John's Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center including coverage of ECT.

Participate in call schedule and other routine faculty coverage duties of inpatient services on weekends.

1% RESEARCH

Will oversee resident research activities to assure all residents are involved in research and/or QI projects and maintain satisfactory progress.

Establish lines of research on own or in collaboration with colleagues.

Publish one (1) peer-reviewed article or chapter every five (5) years.

Develop a line of publishable scholarly activity.

Supervise resident research as applicable.

Maintain certification per Springfield Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (SCRIHS).

4% ADMINISTRATION/PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

Serve as Residency Director for Internal Medicine Psychiatry. Recommend policies and procedures. Provide continuous auditing and monitoring of quality control procedures for the program. Participate in strategic planning, budgeting and material selection. Assure compliance with all ACGME and institutional standards and reporting.

Allocation of residency budget.

Oversight of residency coordinator/specialist and their assignments.

Coordinate residency recruitment.

Perform administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Chair of Psychiatry by attending administrative school and department meeting as assigned by the Chair of Psychiatry.

Must have an MD or DO degree.

Must be eligible for appointment to Program Director role as outlined in ACGME requirements.

Must have completed residency training in internal medicine and psychiatry.

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure with the State of Illinois.

Must be board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.

Will be expected to achieve and maintain board certification within three (3) years, if not board certified at the time of hire.

Must have sufficient experience in ECT to be privileged at both assigned hospitals. SIU will provide training if necessary.

Must be willing to be trained in the provision of TMS.

Must have experience providing services to multicultural populations; experience dealing with underrepresented minority populations; and be sensitive to the needs of minority populations.
