Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) is one of the best two-year colleges in the state of Missouri. SCC serves more than 10,000 students in St. Charles County, a northwestern county outside of St. Louis, MO. SCC's main campus, located in Cottleville, houses 12 award-winning buildings known for its innovative, contemporary "educational village" design and spans over 256 acres. A satellite campus in Dardenne Prairie features a state-of-the-art Center for Healthy Living, encompassing allied health nursing programs, culinary studies, and agriculture studies. Other satellite locations include the Wentzville Technical Center and a planned Regional Workforce and Innovation Center in Wentzville.
Project-Based Field-to-Table Summer Programming Project Specialist (grant funded) Dardenne Creek Campus (DCC)
Position Summary
SCC is seeking a Project-Based Field-to-Table Summer Programming Project Specialist.
The Project Specialist will develop and lead a fully-immersive summer programming for 12–18-year-olds to teach students how to grow, harvest, and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables to create healthy eating choices.
This is a project-based, grant-funded position will be paid $25/hour for 144 hours of work between the development, implementation, and grant-based follow up for the fully immersive summer learning opportunity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Agriculture Camp – June 15, 16, 17; From 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
- Culinary Camp – July 20, 21, 22; From 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
- Assist in recruitment of students for the summer camps
- Assist in planning, development, and delivery of summer camp content
- Assist in the logistics of the summer camps
- Assist in identifying Ag/Science teachers to deliver dual credit/enrollment plant science content in AY 26-27
- Assist in identifying/hiring 2 SCC undergraduate students to act as near-peer mentors during the summer camps
- Assist in garden bed preparations for the summer camps
- Assist in supervision of SCC undergraduate near-peer mentors during the camps
Physical / Environmental Requirements
This position includes being fully immersed in the operations of the farm at the Field-to-Table Institute and will require working outside in the summer heat.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varied working styles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and manage time effectively in a busy, shared workspace with frequent interruptions
Minimum Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in developing youth programming
- Experience working in horticulture or gardening
- Experience working in an educational or student-facing environment
