Position Summary:
The Rollins College Financial Aid Department is seeking a service-oriented Financial Aid Counselor to join their team. Primary Responsibilities
- Counsels, advises, and awards students and families about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, indebtedness, and many other questions.
- Determines breadth and depth of special circumstances within the guidance provided in the federal regulations.
- Use significant amount of discretion in determining award increases, dependency overrides, and satisfactory academic appeal decisions.
- Implements financial aid communication strategies and campaigns to support student recruitment and retention.
- Meets with parents and students to discuss financial aid awards.
- Assists Associate Director with review of tax returns and other verification documents to determine aid eligibility and make awards within federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
- Conducts high school college night presentations and on campus presentations as needed.
- Assists with other financial aid activities such as outreach, reporting, and monitoring.
- Establishes and adheres to appropriate disbursal, recordkeeping, reporting, and verification procedures as well as the data entry function necessary to support the programs.
- Exercises initiative to make recommendations for continual process improvement within the Office of Financial Aid.
- Keeps Director and Associate Director of Financial Aid informed of issues and concerns raised by inquiries; identifies and recommends changes in processes to better expedite financial aid process (both general and student specific)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in financial aid, higher education, student services or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with detailed information and high-quality service to students and families.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of institution, state, and federal financial aid regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of College environment, departments, procedures, and policies.
- Knowledge and practice of organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems and dealing with the public, students, and staff.
- Oral and writing skills sufficient to maintain and update files, logs, reports, and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and families.
- Critical and analytical thinking.
Work Environment:
Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, and working in an office environment. Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, may be required on an as needed basis. Overtime may be required as needed.
