Financial Management Services (FMS), a department within Business Affairs, is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound financial administration policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and financial services at Stanford University and its affiliated entities. It also serves as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team. This influential role will manage complex projects and multiple work-streams in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will partner and build relationships with a variety of executive management and key stakeholders, including university IT, subject matter experts, and FMS leadership. This position is located on the beautiful Stanford Redwood City campus (remote applicants will also be considered) and reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

CORE DUTIES

  • Lead projects through the full project management lifecycle: from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, and closeout; ensuring continuity and accountability at every phase.
  • Independently direct complex, cross-functional projects that require a high degree of integration across multiple systems and stakeholder groups.
  • Develop comprehensive action plans, including scoping resource requirements across personnel, materials, budget, and timeline.
  • Facilitate discussions and negotiations among diverse stakeholders to build alignment and drive consensus on recommendations.
  • Partner with the change management team to design and execute communication strategies that address project scope, impact, and stakeholder needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the organization's systems architecture, business owner priorities, and campus needs. Connect the dots across all three to identify dependencies, surface risks, and align project outcomes to institutional goals.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization; from executive leadership to frontline staff, translating complex data and system interdependencies into clear insights that inform decisions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience. Experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
  • Experience in the use of AI for project management activities and an understanding of the AI environment for the execution of AI projects.
  • Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality.
  • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
  • Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
  • Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certified or certificate in progress
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, complex projects
  • Exceptional and effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills to influence diverse audiences, including senior leadership
  • Strong self-awareness
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience in an academic setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*

  • Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos, or heavy metals or work on roofs at heights greater than 10 ft.
  • Travel locally and cross-university.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $94,590 to $160,000 per annum for remote positions.

The expected pay range for this position is $157,651 to $160,000 per annum for hybrid positions.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
