Summary of Position
The Fire Science Technology (FST) and Emergency Management and Planning (EMP) Faculty is a full-time, 9-month/166-day position. The faculty member is responsible for teaching 15 credits each fall and spring semester. Courses may be taught using both traditional and non-traditional delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, computer-aided, distance learning, self-paced, and interdisciplinary. Faculty may need to teach at any RRCC campus and at a variety of times (days, evenings, and some weekends).
The faculty member develops and evaluates curricula, ensures alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements, documents curriculum changes based on assessments, implements retention strategies, and integrates technology into coursework. Additional responsibilities involve maintaining office hours, assisting with departmental duties, providing academic advising to students, participating in college events, serving on committees, and representing the college in the community. Professional development is a key component of the role, with opportunities for growth to support both teaching and service functions aligned with the college's goals.

The faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in courses spanning both Fire Science Technology and Emergency Management and Planning. The successful candidate will teach courses that cover topics such as fire behavior, fire prevention, fire service leadership, and fire investigation, as well as disaster preparedness, incident command, risk assessment, recovery operations, and continuity planning.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science/Fire Protection/Fire Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Investigation or related field.
+ Tested experience may be used in lieu of the degree requirement on a case-by-case basis. - Has, or qualifies for, postsecondary CTE credential including 4000 paid non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years
+ **Current teachers applying to teach RRCC campus-based, online, or concurrent enrollment CTE courses may include non-teaching occupational hours that are older than the 7-year requirement if they have the required degree (and license/certifications as listed) and a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience in the discipline/program or 6 years part-time teaching experience in the discipline/program. - Experience teaching and/or training various subjects within the discipline.

Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom equipment up to 10 pounds and may move objects weighing up to 200 pounds and may be exposed to hazardous environments and conditions typically found in the firefighting field.
- This is a largely active role. This position operates in an office and physical environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc., as industry specific tools, equipment, and machinery.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
Advertised Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $78,000, commensurate with education and experience. This salary is based on 166 contract days. The projected start date for this position is August 1, 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, FLSA exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System. Faculty may have the option to teach additional course overloads in accordance with college policies and procedures for additional compensation.
