Job Type: Part-time Temporary Pool

Location: Kentfield & Indian Valley (Novato) - In Person, CA

Note: College of Marin's faculty pools are open to applications on a continuous basis. Although there may not be any current openings, applications will remain on file until the hiring department has a need to add candidates to their pool OR for up to one year from the date of application, whichever occurs first. If your application becomes inactive after one year, you may re-apply to the pool at that time. Screenings and interviews can be conducted at any point in time as the hiring department necessitates. Once a screening has occurred, applicants will be notified of their status.

College of Marin's Fire Technology program offers the following skills certificate programs and courses:

  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - FIRE 215 Advanced First Aid/First Responder
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - FIRE 112 Emergency Medical Technician I, and the refresher courses Fire 120A/B

The Emergency Medical Technician Training Course certificate meets the requirements of the California Health and Safety Code for basic EMT-1 training, approved by Marin County Emergency Medical Service Agency. The official EMT-1 Certificate is issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. The students have two years from the time of the class completion to apply and test for the National Registry.

Essential Functions

Instructors appointed to the part-time temporary pool may be used to cover part-time, temporary and/or substitute openings in the program. Assignments can vary in duration and are not guaranteed. Assignments for Fire Technology/EMT pool instructors include:

  • Providing effective classroom or laboratory instruction using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter
  • Preparing and grading all class assignments and examinations
  • Advising, assisting and evaluating students, evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining regular office hours
  • Participating in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Contributing to development of program policies and procedures
  • Participation in departmental and college professional activities and/or committees is welcomed, but not required
  • Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required
  • Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
  • Communicating with excellent written and oral skills in English

Requirements & Desirables

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet one of the following sets of requirements (A or B).

"A" LIST REQUIREMENTS - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) & Advanced First Aid/First Responder Courses

  1. Any Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in the field OR any Associate's degree and six years of professional experience in the field OR the equivalent*; and
  2. Current, valid licensure in California as a Physician, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Paramedic or current, valid certification in California as an Advanced EMT or EMT; and
  3. At least 40 hours of documented instruction in teaching methodology; and
  4. At least two (2) years of academic or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine or pre-hospital care in the last five (5) years; and
  5. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

OR

"B" LIST REQUIREMENTS - EMT, Advanced First Aid/First Responder & Fire Technology Courses

  1. Any Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in the field OR any Associate's degree and six years of professional experience in the field OR the equivalent*; and
  2. Current, valid certification as a California State Fire Training (SFT) Instructor in the subject that will be taught; and
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

Salary Information

Salary Range: $80,887 - $124,850*

Salaries for Part-time Temporary Pool members are based on the number of units taught and are paid at 95% of the Full-time Faculty Salary Schedule. New part-time instructors will be placed between Step 1, Column 1, and Step 9, Column 5 of the salary schedule, depending on verified background and experience. Salary placement is non-negotiable.
