Fitness Specialist
Job Description
The main purpose of the position is to create a safe and seamless environment for members and visitors. It entails coordinating fitness programs and monitoring of facility, members and guests. Coordinating special events, programs, and other facility related duties. Responsible for assisting with facility safety and maintenance, and supporting daily operations including assisting with the business office processes and procedures. Incorporates a customer-oriented philosophy into the mission, and ensures all levels of staff are involved in implementing that philosophy.
Duties:
- Collects fitness data and enters the results in the computer. Develops appropriate exercise prescription, and reviews results of fitness data. Assists client and members with workouts and proper use of equipment.
- May be assigned to troubleshoot facility maintenance needs; assists in administrating security/emergency procedures.
- Daily maintains and monitors the facility including all equipment, locker rooms, general areas, swimming pool, and all exercise areas for safety, cleanliness, esthetics, etc. Regular checking and restocking of products, supplies, etc.
- Recommends, develops and updates policy procedures for security, program development, evaluation, identification of equipment, and facility needs. Report hazards and accidents following safety procedures. Is attentive to potential health and safety risks. Monitors environment making recommendations to improving safe facility practices.
- Greets employees and public promptly and in a courteous and positive manner. Strives to understand needs of guests and responds appropriately. Handles difficult guests tactfully; always remains positive even though customer may be upset. Responds to members with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Required Education: High School diploma or GED, AND 1 year of experience working in a fitness, wellness, or health club
Skills: Knowledge of fitness testing protocols, and fitness testing equipment; Basic knowledge of medical terminology, and exercise principles; Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees and public
Certifications: None
Working Conditions: Physical: Ability to lift and carry 50lb over short distances. Must be able to move with haste for extended amounts of time, pull or push objects with upper and lower body, and reach above head or stoop down. Environmental: Health club environments, including office, hospitality, aquatic, sports, fitness, and mechanical area spaces. Physical stress exposure (hot, cold, windy, dirty, or loud climate). Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Department Preferences: Bachelors degree in an exercise/health related field, CPR and First Aide certifications, fitness instructor certifications, Lifeguarding, etc.
