Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential liberal arts transfer institution dedicated to preparing students for successful transfer to top ranked colleges and universities. Nestled just outside the Tri Cities area, RBC is truly a hidden gem-set on more than 750 acres of scenic wetlands, peaceful forests, and the Commonwealth's oldest and largest pecan grove. Our beautiful rural campus provides a close-knit community where students and staff thrive.
RBC is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and detail-oriented Part Time Food Service Workers to support our vibrant campus dining operations. In this role, you'll be part of a collaborative team that delivers quality meals and outstanding service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a fast paced, high volume dining environment
- Open and close the kitchen and dining areas, including equipment setup and breakdown
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, equipment, and utensils
- Properly care for and maintain kitchen equipment
- Sweep, mop, and clean dining and common areas to ensure a safe and welcoming space
- Assist with catering services and special campus events
- Collaborate with team members, college staff, and vendors to enhance service and resolve issues
- Follow safe food handling practices and present food attractively
- Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- Basic knowledge of food allergies and food safety
- Considerable knowledge of food preparation and operation, including the operation of modern food service equipment, proper sanitation practices and federal and state health and nutrition requirements
- Must have experience in restaurant or food service operations and applications supporting high food quality
- Must be able to work in fast-paced environment to meet food preparation and food serving schedules for large numbers of individual patrons/customers and groups
- Ability to stock inventory and rotate products using FIFO methods
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with a diverse campus community
Additional Considerations
- Serve-Safe certification or currently obtaining certification
- Prior experience working as a cook or food service professional in a cafe or restaurant
- Experience creating visually appealing food presentations
