Job Description Summary

Pay Rate dependent on skill level and years of experience.

The Disabilities Resource Center (DRC) is seeking an experienced and highly qualified candidates to fill to provide communication access (Interpreting services). This position will provide general communication access for students and faculty in the educational environment (classroom and other student activities) for students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing (D/HH).

Job Description

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Provide interpreting services/communication access in the classroom and at college functions.
  • Promote and support the college’s strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the SF community.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations, and interpreter code of conduct.
  • Work as a member of the DRC Team.
  • Provide service of excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Flexible to accommodate the changes in students’ needs and/or schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Disabilities Resources Center Coordinator

Qualifications:

Required: The Interpreter must be nationally certified or in the process of being certified, or eligible to be certified as a Sign Language interpreter.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing in the postsecondary environment. Two (2) years or more experience in interpreting in the postsecondary environment.

  • Communication – able to effectively communicate in both English and ASL.
  • Communication—able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, and empathetic way.
  • Multi-Cultural – ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all peoples within and external to the organization.
