Why join the University of Sydney?

Join one of Australia’s leading universities at a pivotal point of change, where technology is evolving to better support student learning, empower teaching excellence, and enable research delivery at global scale.

ICT is central to delivering the University’s academic mission. Working across faculties, disciplines, and research communities, you will shape the platforms, services, and partnerships that enable student success, strengthen teaching, and accelerate research impact.

This work spans both the critical services that keep the University running every day and the ongoing improvement of systems and experiences.

With strong investment and clear direction, you’ll operate in a large and complex environment where your contribution has visible, meaningful impact across the University.

You’ll collaborate across academic and professional communities to help shape a more connected and capable University, supporting teaching excellence, research impact, and student success.

The opportunity

Enterprise Services is seeking a frontend-focused Full Stack Developer to help deliver modern, accessible and responsive digital experiences across the University’s core web platforms.

You’ll work closely with developers, testers, DevOps, vendors and stakeholders across marketing, research and education to build and improve digital applications that support students, staff and the wider University community.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain high-quality websites and digital applications across the University’s digital ecosystem.
  • Build responsive frontend experiences using JavaScript, React, Svelte, HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver work through Agile sprints, using Jira and modern delivery practices.
  • Contribute to code reviews with a focus on accessibility, SEO, performance, security and coding standards.
  • Write technical documentation and support continuous improvement across web development and delivery.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong frontend development experience using JavaScript, React and modern JavaScript frameworks such as Svelte (nice to have).
  • Experience developing responsive, accessible and high-performing web applications using HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Understanding of AEM-based digital environments and the end-to-end web content lifecycle.
  • Experience utilising AI tools (e.g. Github co-pilot) within the development lifecycle is a plus.
  • Experience with Git or Bitbucket, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo, and code quality practices such as SonarQube and code reviews.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders.

What’s in it for you?

At the University of Sydney, we support our staff with a range of benefits designed to enhance your career, wellbeing and work-life balance, including:

  • Up to 17% superannuation to support your financial future
  • Extremely generous parental leave entitlements.
  • Competitive salary with salary packaging options
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Career development and learning opportunities
  • Health and wellbeing programs including Fitness Passport
  • Access to a vibrant, globally recognised university community
