The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites applications for a Full-Time Classroom Assistant in the Fashion Design Department.
Job Description
The candidate must have extensive knowledge of Stoll M1 systems, and/or comparable system/s with the ability to assist knitwear faculty in the preparation and organization of course materials and equipment. Candidate must convey a practical understanding of Stoll knitting and programming technology to knitwear students in a laboratory setting, conduct clear demonstrations and discussions, and instruct students in the proper use of laboratory instruments. They must provide students with individual instruction and guidance based on an informed assessment of student's needs and abilities. The candidate must be current in and curious about knitwear technologies, demonstrate mechanical aptitude, possess excellent problem-solving skills and time management skills, skillfully prioritize the needs of the area, and be a proactive self-starter. The candidate must have working knowledge of all Stoll technology, including programming, patterning, ongoing maintenance and all other operational features. Selected applicant will work collaboratively in the interdisciplinary program/ interdisciplinary departmental laboratory setting. Candidate selected must be able to source supplies, repair services and make well-founded recommendations, in order to maintain the knitting laboratory's daily and ongoing functionality with a prime focus on student-centeredness.

Requirements
At least seven years of related experience Stoll/ similar machine knitting and programming, OR, Bachelor's degree/ 3 year diploma/ AAS Degree completion from an accredited post-secondary institution of learning including related course work in Stoll machine knitting and programming plus two years of related experience in Stoll machine knitting and programming.

Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 30 hours/week (some evenings and weekends are required)
Schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department
Salary: Schedule 85
