COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

Representative Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructing in lectures and laboratories for a variety of Fire Technology courses including State Fire Marshall accredited courses leading to state certification. E
- Teaching scheduled classes and performing related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities associated with program-specific accreditations. E
- Complying with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. E
- Participating in staff development activities. E
- Serving on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program. E
- Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.
- Promoting the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methods.
- Maintaining a visible presence on campus in order to be available to regularly and actively participate in department meetings and other activities. E
- Evaluating and selecting instructional materials and technology such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriated, with discipline faculty; order instructional materials.
- Performing related duties as assigned; will include working in a para-military atmosphere for professional vocational academies (i.e. marching, physical training, weapons range, heavy lifting. climbing ladders, fighting fires, hiking, etc.)
- Demonstrating a working knowledge of Curriculum review, update and realignment for the Fire Technology Program that meets the current California State Fire Training Curriculum.
- Completing SLO Assessments for course offering; review submitted SLO Assessments for data integrity and accuracy; may mentor faculty in the timely, effective and useful completion of SLO Assessments.
- Providing curriculum and education to fire technology students while implementing a pathway for advancement within other Public Safety departments.
- Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience in Fire or related field OR the equivalent. Must also have the recommended years of professional experience from the SFT Procedures Manual.
Any associate's degree from an accredited institution and one (1) or more of the following certifications:
- Certified SFT Fire and Emergency Services Instructor 1 or
- Certified SFT Instructor I or
- Certified SFT Training Instructor 1 or
- Certified SFT Fire Instructor 1 or
- SFT Historically Recognized Fire Fighter 1 & 2 Academy Instructor Ethical Leadership in the Classroom or Ethical Leadership for Instructors or
- (Fire- Fighter Instructors who were instructing on or before December 31, 2018 with SFT Fire Instructor 1A and 1B or ST Training Instructor 1A and 1B.

Experience:
- Applicant shall have held the rank of Fire Fighter performing suppression duties within a recognized fire agency in California for a minimum of three (3) years.
Candidates may qualify under one of the following:
Option 1
- Bachelor's degree and (2) two years of experience + certification
Option 2
- Associate's degree and (6) six years of experience + certification
AND
All of the following:
- Training Instructor 1A, 1B and 1C: Certificates, or the equivalent certificates (for example, Fire Instructor 1A, 1B and Training Instructor 1C)
- Regional Instructor Orientation: Certificate
- Ethical Leadership in the Classroom: Certificate
- Registered Instructor: Verified with a signed letter from State Fire Marshall indicating the courses the applicant is qualified to teach
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Expertise in teaching 2019/2024 Firefighter I Curriculum and conducting evaluations
- Registered Instructor for the following ARTP-delivered courses:
- Fire Control 3 - Fixed Facility
- Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Technician
- Firefighter Safety and Survival
- Firefighter Rescue and Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) Operations
- Confined Space Rescue Awareness
- Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of developing course syllabi
- Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning
- Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies
- Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.
Ability to:
- Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.
- Demonstrated ability to remain current in one's discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.
- Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom
- Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms
- Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
