The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time Instructor - Philosophy at our Bryan Campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:

Job Summary

To perform the day-to-day operations of the instructional program. To teach courses as scheduled. Faculty in this position teach PHIL 1301: Introduction to Philosophy and/or PHIL 2306: Introduction to Ethics

Principal Accountabilities

• Provides instruction for courses at a variety of times and locations as needed
• Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence
• Maintains access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication
• Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution
• Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
• Advises students in academic matters
• Evaluates students' performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner
• Assists in the development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives
• Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Head, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum
• Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community
• Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments
• Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities
• Engages in collegial activities and service activities across the department, division, and college
• Possesses a passion for teaching community college students
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both written and orally
• Attends college orientation and required institutional meetings
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications

• Masters degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy (per SACSCOC, courses in theology, religion, and education courses do not satisfy this requirement)
• Experience teaching college-level philosophy courses
• Experience teaching at a community college or two-year college
• This position is to teach in-person Philosophy classes on the Bryan Campus.

• Creating a positive, safe, and collaborative learning environment that encourages student participation and self-management.
• Maintaining subject-matter expertise, engaging in continuous professional development, and demonstrating cultural competence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using D2L/Brightspace
• Experience teaching Introduction to Philosophy and/or Introduction to Ethics
• Please provide at least two professional references.

Special Notes To ApplicantsWork hours: All full-time faculty positions at Blinn College require an on-campus presence of 40 hours per week during regular business hours

This is a 9 month, benefits-eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full-time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits.
