**FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT**
10-Month Tenure Track Position
**COMPENSATION:** Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308 based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach scheduled classes including Introduction to Theatre Arts, Theatre History, Technical Stage Production and technical Theatre classes which may include, Lights/Sound, Stagecraft, Costume, Design Principles for the Theatre, and/or Makeup and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.
  • In collaboration with the Performing Arts Center, serve as Technical Director for Theatre Arts Productions.
  • Collaborate with Theatre Arts Faculty to produce shows.
  • Serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the Theater Arts program Collaborate with other related departments including Music and Dance.
  • Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success, using different teaching modalities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects.
  • Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on academic senate and shared governance committees as necessary to support and enrich instructional programs.
  • Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR Bachelor's or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND Master's in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities OR the equivalent.
*Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.*
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) years of experience teaching theater arts in a community college.
  • Experience designing, building, or technical directing a variety of theatrical productions including musical theatre.
  • Experience with current theatre technology including sound and lighting consoles.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Live Theatre Productions
  • Knowledge of working on productions in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of professional/ theatrical educational associations
  • Knowledge of developing course syllabi
  • Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning
  • Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies
  • Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable
ABILITIES:
  • Ability to teach Theatre Arts at a college/university level
  • Ability to teach introduction to Theatre Arts
  • Ability to teach Theatre History
  • Ability to teach Technical Theatre classes
  • Ability to train technicians for productions in an educational setting
  • Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain current in one's discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.
  • Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom
  • Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms
  • Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
