Theatre Design
Preferred candidates should hold an MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in a design discipline and possess both professional and teaching experience. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses within the candidate’s specialization and serving as a key member of the season’s production team. Expertise in Costume or Lighting Design is especially desired, though other design areas will be considered.
Acting/Directing
Preference will be given to applicants holding an MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in acting or directing, along with relevant professional and teaching experience. Responsibilities include teaching acting, directing, and related courses, with additional opportunities for involvement in musical theatre, children’s theatre, or classical theatre.
Technical Theatre
The preferred candidate will hold an MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in technical direction and have professional and teaching experience. Ideal applicants will demonstrate proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Lightburn, V-Carve Pro, Fusion 360, Vectorworks, AutoCAD), CNC tools, and possess strong rigging and welding skills.
About Harding Theatre
Harding Theatre challenges students to develop superior artistic skills in service to others through ministry, education, and professional theatre. The department currently includes 51 majors and 20 minors across all areas and maintains an active production season of mainstage shows, summer stock productions, and student-directed one acts and festivals.
Harding’s campus features four main theatre spaces:
- Reynolds Center - the academic building housing the department academic offices, rehearsal studio, class room spaces, tech labs and design studios
- Evan Ulrey Performing Arts Center – a 46’x70’ flexible black box seating 180–330, costume shop and scene shop facilities that include both property and scenic storage.
- George S. Benson Auditorium – a 3,750-seat proscenium space with over 2,800 square feet of stage space.
- Administration Auditorium – a 900-seat proscenium venue with a 34-foot-wide opening.
Salary and rank are commensurate with experience.
