Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking a full-time Faculty in Medical Sciences. Rank and position type are commensurate with individual experience.

Job Description:

The Anatomy Learning Institute (ALI) within the College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position. The ALI has a strong commitment to excellence in teaching where faculty members are expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in medical and anatomical subdisciplines (Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Embryology, and Histology) with an emphasis on hands-on human body donor dissection. Faculty members are also expected to maintain an ongoing research agenda in their area of expertise. Moreover, candidates are expected to contribute to other administrative responsibilities within the Anatomy Learning Institute such as leading academic programs, overseeing anatomy facilities or organizing outreach initiatives.

The College of Health Sciences has a strong commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive academic community with a passion for building a Christian community with students.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in medical and anatomical subdisciplines (Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Embryology and Histology) in a dissection-based curriculum
  • Conduct ongoing research or scholarly activity related to anatomy, health sciences education, or a related field
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially in a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the recruitment, retention, and preparation of student workers, staff and faculty in the ALI
  • Contribute service at the institute, college and university levels and within their professional pathways
  • Engage in other activities as assigned by the supervisor such as admin responsibilities (e.g. leading academic programs, overseeing anatomy facilities, etc.) and outreach activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in medical/anatomical sciences or other health-related degree with a strong background in anatomy
  • Evidence of excellence in (undergraduate/graduate) teaching along with human body donor dissection experience or commitment to learning.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional activity and scholarship.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills are required, including evidence of an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant.
  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local 'Fair Chance' laws.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing, delivering, and assessing online courses, including a demonstrated ability to engage and support students in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching a clinical anatomy curriculum including competency in use of ultrasound as a teaching tool, among other modalities.

Benefits: We are pleased to offer attractive benefits and resources. This includes benefits such as health, dental, tuition benefits for employees and dependents, and competitive retirement matching. There also may be opportunities for university assistance with the cost of housing in Southern California. In addition, we have many opportunities to engage with our community including faculty chapel, weekly faculty lunches, and a robust wellness program.

Salary: PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 3-semester appointment range from $87,210 to $142,678. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

PLNU is a Christian liberal arts university in the evangelical, Wesleyan tradition, offering quality undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.
