As a Future Student Advisor at James Cook University (JCU), you will represent the University externally, develop meaningful partnerships with schools and organisations, and play a key role in shaping how future students connect with higher education.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to own and grow a portfolio of school and external relationships, giving you genuine scope to influence future student pathways and build long-term engagement for the University. You’ll work closely with School Careers and Guidance Officers, education providers and community partners, developing trusted relationships that position JCU as a preferred study destination.

You’ll represent JCU across a wide range of settings, including school visits, careers events and public expos, gaining valuable experience in facilitation, stakeholder engagement and external representation. Alongside this, you’ll engage with prospective students and families and support enquiries, allowing you to see how strong relationships translate into real outcomes for individuals.

Success in this role comes from autonomy, variety, and the chance to build deep expertise in relationship management, influence, and outreach, making it a strong fit for someone looking to grow in engagement, partnerships, or future student recruitment.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree qualification in Marketing, Communications, Events, Education or a related discipline and relevant experience or a combination of education/training and extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer sales and event planning, with the ability to rapidly acquire technical product knowledge in relation to university products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously under broad supervision and contribute effectively as part of a team, delivering quality performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in developing and managing key stakeholder relationships
  • Proven ability to engage and influence customers using persuasive oral and written presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with proficiency in the Microsoft Suite and experience using a range of software including Content Management System, Customer Relationship Management, Marketing Automation and social media.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian higher Education sector (desirable).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This position may be required to travel within the region including overnight stays and perform after hours work on occasion.

It is a requirement of this position to hold:

  • A current Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card);
  • A current ‘C’ class Queensland Drivers Licence; and
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
