Edith Cowan University

Are you ready to belong to a dynamic community where courage, creativity, and optimism are essential elements of our DNA? At ECU we’re inspired by the incredible achievements of Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament and a lifelong champion of education. Empowered by her legacy, we’re united in our vision to lead the sector in educational experience and expand our impact through world-class research.

Embrace an opportunity to become part of something extraordinary.ECU Art, Culture and Collections is a newly formed area that combines the activation of the existing ECU Art Collection, the development of a brand-new public-facing gallery space at the City Campus with accompanying outward-facing exhibition program, public art activation and the implementation of the Cultural Narrative Framework, recently endorsed by the university.

Its mission is to become a leading conduit of formalised art knowledge and experiences into the public domain, as well as to enhance student and staff experiences across their ECU cultural journeys. It leads in best practice in collection care and maintenance, as well as in Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and community and artist engagement. The exhibition program aims to provide the local and national communities dynamic, innovative and accessible opportunities to connect with art and artists, in the heart of the city at Yagan Square, alongside opportunities for real-life learning for students in a world-class gallery space.

  • Fabrication and Maintenance: Assist with basic construction, gallery upkeep, and equipment servicing, maintaining accurate records and ensuring all assets are logged and operational.
  • Safety and Compliance: Contribute to WHS procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices in line with ECU policies.
  • Collaboration: Work across ECU teams and with external partners and contractors to deliver high-quality exhibitions.
  • Employees are required to participate in all ECU, team, and individual planning activities; comply with ECU policies and practices in all aspects of their work and conduct; and ensure the safety and wellbeing of themselves and others by complying with WHS and EO requirements.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle and install artworks or comparable materials, with a strong understanding of professional standards around packing and storage.
  • Competence in the use of hand tools, power tools, and working at heights using ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to work flexibly across a range of tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, and ability to travel to relevant campuses.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and with external partners.
  • Sound understanding of workplace health and safety procedures, with the ability to apply these in practical settings.
