A Master's degree and significant professional experience in broadcast journalism are required. Successful experience in network or local television news operations, news management roles, and a track record of adopting and innovating new media concepts are preferred. Experience teaching broadcast journalism is a plus.

Description:
The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma seeks to fill a renewable-term instructor position who will also serve as General Manager of Student Broadcast Media to begin in Fall 2026. The initial appointment is for one year.
Gaylord College, the number one media program in the nation as ranked by the Broadcast Education Association, is looking for an individual with high professional and ethical standards who can serve as general manager of the College's fast growing broadcast area that helps prepare students (in and out of the classroom) for careers in broadcast news and related content generation and streaming opportunities. This is a teaching position with administrative duties. In this role, the general manager will provide a faculty bridge by supervising and coordinating all the operations staff in editorial, production, engineering and sports related to the creation of our award-winning student newscast and other broadcast programming. This position will also be the key liaison with and part of the Journalism faculty. The person we hire will be prepared to help the program evolve with digital and other technological changes unfolding in the broadcast industry, create new programming/streaming opportunities for the growing number of students, as well as forge new partnerships with industry. In sum, this position will creatively push the boundaries of media innovation to help make sure our students are future-proof and industry-ready. Candidates will be able to teach basic and advanced courses dealing with newsgathering and storytelling for television, TV news producing and management, and to oversee participation in student award competitions.
