Gnotobiotic Animal Technical Officer

About This Opportunity

Join a dedicated, inquisitive and highly collaborative animal research support team and play a vital role in enabling world-class research outcomes. As an Gnotobiotic Animal Technical Officer, you will provide specialised expert animal care, breeding and technical services across a diverse research environment, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver high-quality animal care and technical support by providing expert husbandry, colony management and specialised procedures across laboratory animals predominantly laboratory rodents within a germ-free and gnotobiotic setting, ensuring optimal animal welfare at all times.
  • Monitoring breeding performance of stock, transgenic and knockout lines of mice and maintaining records
  • Support ethical and compliant research operations through the accurate application of approved animal ethics protocols, biosecurity measures and regulatory requirements, and by maintaining precise records and facility standards.
  • Maintain safe, reliable and well-functioning facilities by overseeing cleanliness, life-support systems and equipment, responding promptly to alarms and incidents, and contributing to a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Perform gnotobiotic facility operational tasks including germ-free sterilisation of supplies and equipment, construction and maintenance of germ-free isolators and Iso-cages and regular sample collection and quality control measures.
  • Collaborate, communicate and build capability by working closely with researchers, students and colleagues, assisting with training, supervision and inductions, and providing clear, professional advice and support.
  • This role involves physical duties, including manual handling of equipment and supplies, and participation in weekend and public holiday rosters as required.
