Governors School of Tourism Faculty - Summer Program - Chambers College of Business and Economics
Description
The West Virginia Department of Education, West Virginia Department of Tourism and West Virginia University are looking for qualified, energetic, and enthusiastic candidates to join our team for an unforgettable opportunity to teach and inspire the potential future leaders of tourism and hospitality in our great state through the Governor's School for Tourism (GST).
GST provides students with an opportunity to explore travel regions of our mountain state while learning the importance of hospitality, tourism, and outdoor adventures. Faculty will travel nearly 600 miles of our Country Roads on a charter bus with students.
Overnight accommodations will include a resort, campus dormitory, state park lodges, hotels, and glamping tents, exposing everyone to a diverse range of hospitality business models. Daytime activities include historical tours, culinary lessons, outdoor adventure activities, unique cultural destinations, state parks, national parks, and more!
Our immersive, experiential "traveling classroom" will encourage your adventurous spirit and challenge students to grow academically as they consider how tourism impacts our state and career pathways available in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Students will be rising high school sophomores and juniors. We are planning on approximately 60 students; 1 from each of the 55 counties, 1 from each of the charter schools, & 1 from the WV Schools for the Deaf and Blind. GST tour dates are Saturday, June 20th through Monday, June 29th. Faculty must be fully present and available for the duration of these dates. Faculty may not have any family member with them for the duration of the trip.
In addition to the 10 days with students, faculty must be available for 2 days of virtual/in-person onboarding, training, and curriculum development meetings as designated by the host university and the WVDE.
During the tour dates, faculty will have chaperoning responsibilities from approximately 7 am to 10 pm every day. The days will be long, but they will also be filled with exciting travel and adventures you will get to experience alongside high school students!
