Position Summary
The Graduate School Recruiter serves as the first point of contact for prospective graduate students and is pivotal in cultivating relationships with applicants, admitted students, community colleges, businesses, and counselors. This position is responsible for creating and executing strategic recruitment initiatives to attract students to WSSU’s graduate programs.
The Graduate School Recruiter will plan and participate in various recruitment activities, including attending graduate recruitment fairs, visiting businesses, representing WSSU at community and university events, and responding to inquiries from prospects. This individual will serve as a knowledgeable guide for prospective students, assisting them throughout the entire admissions process.
Responsibilities of the Graduate School Recruiter include:
- Provide comprehensive counseling to prospective graduate students, guiding them through the process based on the Graduate Program of interest
- Conduct individual and group information sessions to showcase the university’s offerings, and provide customer support in completing the enrollment process.
- Develop and implement strategic recruitment plans, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of recruitment projects from conception to completion.
- Establish and manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Plan and facilitate graduate recruitment events, open houses, and virtual and in-person information sessions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create engaging programming that showcase the university’s unique features.
- Develop and manage budgets for recruitment events and initiatives, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Track expenses and provide regular budget updates to leadership
- Implement effective strategies to convert prospective students into graduate admitted students.
- Collaborate with academic departments to communicate program-specific benefits to applicants.
- Establish and monitor key performance metrics related to the increase in the application pool, acceptance rates, and yield.
- Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and success stories.
- Foster strong partnerships with academic departments, student services, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Work closely with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling recruitment materials.

- 2-3 years of related experience

- Ability to engage with a diverse range of prospective students and external partners.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple recruitment activities simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel for recruitment events and activities.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Knowledge of graduate programs and the higher education landscape is a plus.
- Experience in recruitment, admissions, higher education, or a related field is preferred.
