JOB TITLE:
School of Energy Resources Grant Accountant
JOB PURPOSE:
Manage a diverse and growing portfolio of federal, state, and private grants and contracts. This position is responsible for overseeing daily financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing high-level support to Principal Investigators (PIs) and other SER staff in the preparation, execution, and reporting of grants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and administer the expanding portfolio of federal, state, and private grants and contracts for the School of Energy Resources (SER), ensuring compliance with both sponsor requirements and university policies.
  • Manage daily financial operations, including comprehensive accounting processes, expenditure tracking, and account reconciliation for SER's grant-funded projects.
  • Generate and maintain precise records of grant transactions and financial activity, producing detailed monthly financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators (PIs) and other SER staff to develop and manage budgets for new grant proposals, ensuring alignment with financial guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to the University of Wyoming, state, and federal regulations, as well as sponsor-specific terms and conditions. Support PIs in ensuring compliance with federal regulations under OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and prepare quarterly SF-425 reports.
  • Utilize the WyoCloud system to process non-PO invoices, contracts, sub-award agreements, purchase requisitions, procurement card transactions, and expense reports.
  • Monitor and verify project effort using the University's Effort Compensation Compliance (EEC) system to ensure accurate reporting of effort across grant-funded projects.
  • Serve as a key resource for internal and external grant-related inquiries, collaborating closely with various SER-sponsored Centers, both internal and external, on proposal and budget development, and ongoing financial analysis.
  • Analyze complex financial and operational data, recommending and implementing best practices for grant management. Review business practices, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between Center staff, contractors, and SER administration, facilitating seamless communication and offering administrative support as needed. Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies and gather information for auditors when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience: 3 years of professional experience in grant administration, financial analysis, or a similar role
Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:
  • Membership in the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI) or the ability to obtain membership within one year of hire.

WORK LOCATION:
Remote/Flexible Work: This is a hybrid-position due to limited office space availability.
