We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Research Grants Administrator to provide comprehensive administrative support to academic staff applying for, and managing, external research funding.
The postholder will support the full lifecycle of research grants - from identifying funding opportunities and coordinating submissions, through to post-award administration, reporting, and financial monitoring. You will work closely with Principal Investigators, senior departmental colleagues, Research Services, Finance and HR to ensure applications are submitted accurately, on time, and in line with institutional and sponsor requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative and clerical support to staff preparing research funding applications
- Coordinating approvals and liaising with senior colleagues to confirm departmental and faculty support
- Submitting applications to internal Research Offices and tracking progress through all stages
- Supporting post-award grant management, including reporting, monitoring expenditure, and maintaining records
- Identifying and circulating funding opportunities relevant to staff research interests
- Maintaining accurate databases, financial summaries, and filing systems for active and completed grants
- Producing management information and reports on departmental research activity
- Advising staff on grant systems, procedures, and sponsor requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of working to deadlines
- Excellent IT skills, including word processing, internet research, and Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of principles and processes related to grants administration
- A good general education to A-level standard (or equivalent), including GCSE English and Mathematics / NVQ Level 3
- Previous experience in accounting is desirable.
