Grants Officer, Post Award - Research Grants & Contracts

The Opportunity

  • Full-time (35 hours week), 2-year fixed term contract based at UNSW Kensington campus
  • Flexible/hybrid working arrangements including 9-day fortnight option
  • Level 6 or 7 appointment– starting from $103,866 + 17% super

The Role:

Research Grants and Contracts (RGC) contribute to UNSW’s research performance and profile via the effective management of the University’s research income. RGC is the key link between UNSW researchers, executive and funding agencies such as the NHMRC, ARC, other government and non-government research funders, philanthropic competitive grant funders and industry partners.

Each year the RGC manages projects valued at more than $450M in research income which includes more than 6,000 ongoing projects on behalf of UNSW, supporting more than 2,000 UNSW academics.

This role is part of the Post Award team, which is dedicated to the delivery of high-quality customer focused services to the University in the post-award space. Post-Award Grant Officers ensure that researchers holding funding meet all sponsor financial and progress reporting requirements; and that information stored in the management system is accurate and reliable.

Reporting to the Grants Manager, you’ll work closely with other team members and colleagues from across the Division of Research and Enterprise.

About You

Level 6

You bring relevant qualifications and/or experience in administration, program, or project management. A background in research grant support will be highly regarded.

You communicate clearly and effectively—both in writing and in person—and you're confident interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures. You're comfortable using standard office software and are efficient in handling information management systems, especially when delivering high-volume, client-focused services.

You're known for your professionalism and ability to deliver high-quality, customer-focused support, even when working under tight deadlines. You also understand and are committed to UNSW’s goals, values, and policies. Additionally, you take your health and safety responsibilities seriously—both psychological and physical—and are committed to staying informed through relevant training.

Level 7 (In addition to Level 6)

You are an experienced research management professional with a strong track record in managing complex grants and providing high-level, strategic advice. You’ll bring deep expertise in interpreting research policies, resolving intricate funding issues, and recommending policy improvements where needed. Your financial acumen enables you to confidently perform advanced calculations, while your proactive approach drives continuous improvement in service delivery and operational efficiency.

In this role, you’ll also mentor junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture. You’ll work closely with management to implement quality assurance processes and identify risk areas in research, offering practical solutions. As a recognised expert in a designated portfolio of granting body rules and legislation, you’ll be a trusted advisor to both research staff and Grants Officers, ensuring compliance and excellence in research funding support.
