Description:

Dartmouth College invites applications for a Guarini Dean's Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Program in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences (Rocky). This fellowship supports scholars whose research addresses WGSS and Public Policy. Candidates with additional expertise in the intersection between politics and artmaking are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition, the fellowship promotes student and faculty diversity at Dartmouth, and throughout higher education, by supporting scholars committed to advancing inclusive access in higher education. Applicants will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement, promise in research and teaching, and demonstrated commitment to academic excellence in an environment that is welcoming to all.

WGSS gives students a theoretical base for a systematic analysis of the construction of gender and the historical, economic, political, social, and cultural experiences of women. It is an interdisciplinary program drawing on resources from the Social Sciences, the Humanities, and the Sciences. Rocky serves as a catalyst for public policy research, teaching, and deliberation. It is dedicated to providing an interdisciplinary non-partisan perspective on policy-related topics.

At Dartmouth, postdoctoral fellows will be part of a broad scholarly community including social science departments such as Government, Economics, Sociology, History, Anthropology, and Geography; interdisciplinary programs with a range of intersectional research interests such as Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; the Political Economy Project; the Dickey Center for International Understanding; the Leslie Humanities Center, the Wright Center for the Study of Computation and Just Communities, the Neukom Institute for Computational Science, the Irving Institute for Energy and Society, and the Ethics Institute.

This is a two-year residential fellowship, with one course taught in the second year. The course can be arranged to fit the fellow's expertise and background, and may be taught in crosslisted in WGSS and Rocky or one of the aforesaid social science departments. Fellows are expected to pursue research activities while participating fully in the intellectual life of the department and the college. Fellows receive an annual stipend of approximately $67,580 plus benefits and an allocation for research expenses (exact funding levels will be set at the time of offer).

Guarini Dean's Postdoctoral Fellows are part of the Provost's Fellowship Program, a multidisciplinary cohort of approximately ten predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars who share a commitment to increasing inclusive access in their disciplines and higher education. Fellows participate together in mentoring and professional development programming, including guidance in preparing for faculty careers. Postdoctoral fellows also have access to professional development opportunities through the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, including their community initiatives.
