Head of Collection Strategies
Xavier University seeks applicants to fill the librarian position of Head of Collection Strategies. Reporting to the Library Director, the successful candidate for this full-time, exempt position leads the Library’s collection development and management program including administration of a $1m acquisitions budget. The successful candidate guides the formulation, implementation and evaluation of collection development and management strategies for print and electronic resources, directs and analyzes collections assessment initiatives, maintains vendor relations and participates in the provision of effective public service including liaison responsibilities.
Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
- Administer the general library collection development and management program including supervision of the Electronic Resources and Acquisitions Librarian.
- Allocate and monitor overall library materials budget and provide budget projections.
- Direct and analyze collections assessment initiatives to inform strategic planning and contribute to accreditation efforts.
- Coordinate the gathering of collection statistics and budget information for university accreditation, academic department accreditation and self-study/program reviews using Xavier’s Library Services Platform (LSP) which includes all products that are part of the ExLibris LSP, among other information sources.
- Administer orders and renewals. Approve orders, renewal of subscriptions in all formats, and new subscription requests.
- Communicate with University and academic departments about materials budget impacts including potential cancelations and new subscriptions/orders.
- Evaluate and respond to proposals for consortial purchases of electronic resources.
- Oversee the maintenance of database usage statistics files, and coordinate database trials.
- Lead vendor negotiations and review license/contracts terms.
- Review and update the Collection Development Policy as needed.
- Provide assessments and projections of collection space needs for both onsite and offsite collections.
- Lead stacks maintenance and related activities including overseeing collection deaccessioning.
- Supervise student employees in collections activities as needed.
- Serves as a liaison to faculty in one or more academic departments
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a professional librarian
- Experience working with selecting or managing library resources, which may include working with library budgets
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with strong attention to detail and follow through
- Advanced communication and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet established deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one-year supervisory experience of library staff
- Familiarity with ExLibris Alma/Primo LSP environment
- Knowledge of Open Access and Open Educational Resources
- Understanding of consortial landscape for shared content
- Knowledge of Copyright and Fair Use provisions
