Head of School, Electrical Engineering and Robotics

  • Reference number: 26076
  • Term: Fixed-term, full-time basis for five (5) years
  • Remuneration: An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
  • Location: Gardens Point
  • Open to: Current staff members of QUT who have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the fixed-term appointment. Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Head of School, Electrical Engineering and Robotics to join School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering.

The Head of School provides strategic and operational leadership for the delivery of high-quality education and internationally recognised research across QUT’s Electrical Engineering and Robotics disciplines. As a member of the Faculty of Engineering Executive Team, the role works collaboratively with portfolio leaders to shape, implement and advance the University's strategic priorities. The Head of School fosters a collaborative, ambitious and high-performing academic culture and actively promotes engagement and collaboration across the Faculty, with other QUT faculties and divisions, and with external partners.

The School of Electrical Engineering is situated within the Faculty of Engineering. Its expertise in power engineering, renewable energy systems, robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer vision and signal processing supports the development of systems that automatically interpret the world, its people and their activities using diverse visual and audio data sources. The School is committed to the education of electrical engineers at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and works with partner Schools to deliver leading-edge programs in renewable power, AI and robotics, mechatronic, software and aerospace engineering..

What you need to succeed

  1. A doctoral qualification or equivalent in a discipline relevant to electrical engineering and/or robotics, together with an established record of senior academic leadership and disciplinary standing.
  2. A demonstrated record of leading and enabling high-quality research and scholarship, including the development of research capability, effective collaborations and impact.
  3. Proven leadership capabilities, evidenced by outcomes in major research initiatives and/or large-scale education programs.
  4. Experience in strategic planning, financial stewardship and resource management.
  5. Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  6. Highly developed communication and interpersonal capability, including the capacity to build trust, influence at senior levels and lead sustainable organisational change.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of diversity and inclusivity, as well as health and safety.
