Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, a NCAA Division III institution and member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), invites applications for the full-time position of Head Women’s Tennis Coach with duties as a physical education instructor beginning August 1, 2026. This position is a full-time, 11-month (August – June) appointment reporting to the Director of Athletics.

About the Role

The foundation of this position include commitments to exceptional coaching, developing and supporting a holistic student-athlete experience, and advancing the university’s mission. This role will serve as head coach and will direct and facilitate recruitment for the program working towards roster goals provided by the Director of Athletics. The coach is also responsible for administration of the program including scheduling of practices, trainings, and competitions; coordination of team travel; budget management; and serving as a liaison with the local tennis community. Additionally, the coach will foster culture and team-building within the program, focusing on engagement of returning student-athletes. This position also supports the academic program, including serving as an instructor for physical education and/or activity courses for undergraduate students.

Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field, a minimum of two years of relevant tennis coaching experience, a thorough understanding and working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and NSCA principles, possession of (or ability to obtain upon hire) first aid and CPR certifications, and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations.

Candidates must demonstrate effective coaching methods; exhibit excellent recruiting, leadership, role-modeling, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; have demonstrated success working with diverse populations; and possess Microsoft Office proficiency. Applicants must also have abilities to work independently and collaboratively, as well as effectively with students, families, and campus constituencies. Additionally, candidates must also be willing and able to travel by car and air­, to transport student-athletes in university vehicles, and to work evenings and weekends.

Applicants with a master’s degree, collegiate tennis coaching experience (specifically at the DIII level), and experience in a single-sex, residential, liberal arts higher education institution are preferred.
