Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Job Description Summary:
The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach is responsible for the strategic leadership, competitive success, and operational management of a nationally competitive NCAA Division III volleyball program. The position is accountable for sustaining championship-level performance, recruiting and developing high-caliber student-athletes, and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Head Coach is evaluated annually based on competitive outcomes, program leadership, recruitment effectiveness, student-athlete development, compliance, and operational execution.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience that includes volleyball instruction, program administration, and recruiting.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams to conference championships, NCAA tournament participation, or equivalent national-level competition.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, operate, and sustain a highly competitive collegiate athletic program, while motivating and mentoring student-athletes to achieve peak individual and team performance.
- Working knowledge of comprehensive program administration, including budget management, team travel logistics and expenditures, inventory oversight (equipment, uniforms, training tools), practice and competition scheduling, fundraising strategies, academic progress monitoring, alumni relations, and compliance with NCAA, SCIAC, and University policies.
- Ability to stay current with and effectively integrate emerging coaching and performance technologies, including video analysis, data analytics, and sport-specific computing systems, into daily program operations and competitive preparation.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, personnel, and high-pressure situations in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership and effective communication across diverse populations, including but not limited to race, gender, sexual identity, physical ability, socioeconomic background, and religious perspectives.
- Ability to travel extensively and work a flexible, nontraditional schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended periods during recruitment and competitive seasons.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student-athlete, personnel, and program records and information.
- Proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and sport-specific platforms (e.g., Hudl, VolleyMetrics, or equivalent performance and recruiting systems).
- Ability to accurately maintain professional records and documentation, both electronic and paper, using appropriate grammar, organization, and documentation standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- NCAA Division III coaching experience
- NCAA head coaching experience
Specific Duties:
Duty: PROGRAM LEADERSHIP and COACHING
- Provide vision, leadership, and direction to sustain SCIAC and national competitiveness.
- Establish, communicate, and enforce program standards related to culture, accountability, discipline, professionalism, work ethic, and team cohesion.
- Create an environment that supports student-athlete development, retention, and leadership growth.
- Maintain alignment with NCAA, SCIAC, and University policies, holding staff and student-athletes accountable to all expectations.
- Evaluate program effectiveness regularly and implement adjustments to support sustained excellence.
Percentage of Time: 25
Duty: COACHING EXECUTION and COMPETITIVE RESULTS
- Design, implement, and evaluate practice plans, match strategies, and training methodologies that drive competitive success.
- Lead all aspects of in-season and postseason preparation and competition.
- Analyze performance metrics, opponent tendencies, and match outcomes to inform strategic decisions.
- Achieve measurable competitive outcomes aligned with conference and national benchmarks, including SCIAC standings and NCAA tournament participation.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement in team performance and competitive readiness.
Percentage of Time: 20
Duty: STAFF SUPERVISION & DEVELOPMENT
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches and support staff.
- Establish performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and address deficiencies in a timely manner.
- Hold all personnel accountable for meeting program standards, compliance, and contribution to competitive outcomes.

Duty: RECRUITMENT
- Develop and execute an aggressive, nationally competitive recruitment strategy to identify, attract, and retain elite volleyball talent.
- Identify, evaluate, and secure high-performing prospective student-athletes through in-person and digital recruitment efforts.
- Collaborate with Admissions, athletic administrative staff, and external networks to achieve roster targets, retention goals, and competitive balance.
- Meet annual recruitment objectives, with a minimum target of 4 to 5 student-athletes who enroll and actively contribute to the program.
Percentage of Time: 15
Duty: PROGRAM OPERATIONS & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
- Administer and manage the volleyball program budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with institutional and NCAA guidelines.
- Oversee scheduling, travel logistics, equipment procurement, vendor relationships, and operational planning.
- Monitor expenditures, maintain accurate documentation, and prepare reports as requested/required.
Percentage of Time: 10
Duty: ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
- Support the holistic development of student-athletes, including athletic performance, academic progress, leadership development, and personal accountability.
- Monitor academic eligibility and progress toward degree completion in collaboration with academic support services, ensuring NCAA eligibility and academic success.
- Collaborate with Strength & Conditioning staff to develop year-round training programs that maximize athletic performance and reduce injury risk.

Duty: FUNDRAISING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Develop and execute high-impact fundraising and promotional initiatives that enhance program visibility and financial support.
- Cultivate strong relationships with alumni, donors, and local community leaders.
- Represent the program at public and media events, speaking engagements, and community activities.

Duty: OTHER DUTIES
- Serve as the primary on-site leader for some home competitions, overseeing operational excellence and compliance with NCAA and SCIAC standards.
- Perform special projects or summer assignments only as directed by the Director of Athletics.

Salary Range
Maximum: $82,028.10
Minimum: $74,571
