Hearing Board Chair

The Hearing Board Chair will report to the Associate to the Chancellor for Institutional Equity and Compliance. Their primary responsibilities are to preside over hearings to resolve complaints of sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment involving students, faculty, and staff at UNL; preside over prehearing conferences; draft and submit timely decision letters on behalf of the hearing board that resolve these complaints; and complete all associated preparation work and related tasks. Responsibilities also include participating in any training programs that may be required for individuals serving in the role of hearing chair, assisting with the training of hearing board members, and assisting with revisions and updates to University civil rights policies. This is a part-time position corresponding to .20 FTE.

Minimum Required Qualifications: Juris Doctor or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs. Must have: excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information, attention to detail, analytical and organization skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and neutrality obligations. Skills using Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and Word) and Zoom. Knowledge of civil rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and others.
Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctor or graduate degree in student affairs, higher education administration, social work, psychology or related discipline desired. Two years of related experience. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence. Demonstrated knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and others.
