Heersink School of Medicine-Open Rank-Medicine (Infectious Disease)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks to refill a faculty position in the renowned Department of Medicine/Infectious Diseases (ID) Division. Rank and tenure status will be determined based on qualifications. Salary and start-up package are negotiable. Position available for both PhDs and Board eligible MDs.
UAB, the Department of Medicine, and the Division of ID are leaders in medical research and NIH funding. Interdisciplinary collaborations between basic and clinical faculty are a strong suit of UAB. We offer a well-developed infrastructure for cross-cutting research in inflammation, infection, and immunity. Priority will be given to those with expertise and specialized training in infections in immunocompromised hosts (including transplant recipients). Depending on applicants' credentials, qualifications, and interests, participation in general ID and/or HIV specialty care (inpatient consults, outpatient clinic) will be possible. Candidates will complement our clinical, research, and educational activities, participating in our ongoing work or developing new areas of emphasis.

Required Qualifications: Candidates with a variety of skill sets and outstanding track-record of accomplishments in infectious diseases and sustained extramural funding preferred to complement ongoing investigative work or to develop new areas of emphasis are sought. Priority will be given to those with expertise in infections in immunocompromised hosts (including transplant recipients), global health and travel/tropical medicine, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, and bench research in diverse topics including HIV, the human microbiome and its role in susceptibility to infectious diseases, bacterial pathogenesis, and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance.
Preferred Qualifications: MD candidates must be board certified or board eligible and must have a medical license with the State of Alabama.
