General Summary
The History Faculty role will teach all assigned courses and actively support departmental initiatives in advancing student success and fulfilling the mission of Odessa College. Contribute to a collaborative academic environment by engaging in departmental activities, supporting instructional goals, and maintaining a commitment to high-quality education and student-centered service.
Specific Position Duties
- Teach assigned courses within the curriculum, ensuring effective delivery of course content and student engagement.
- Teach Web, Web-enhanced, and ITV classes as assigned, utilizing a variety of instructional technologies, including Tegrity.
- Teach CollegeNow (dual credit) courses in accordance with institutional and program guidelines.
- Assist with student recruitment, advising, and retention initiatives.
- Actively participate in departmental and campus-wide committees and service activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field and incorporate current practices into instruction.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to teach a variety of courses, schedules, locations, and delivery formats as assigned by the college.
- Develop and assign appropriately challenging coursework that supports student growth and achievement.
- Provide clear written expectations to students, including syllabi, course policies, assignment instructions, and grading criteria.
- Develop, administer, and evaluate assessments aligned with course objectives, including comprehensive final examinations.
- Foster a learning environment that affirms the worth and dignity of all individuals and supports the right of all students to learn.
- Maintain an appropriate classroom climate in traditional, online, and distance learning environments that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic integrity and objectivity.
- Prepare thoroughly for classes and arrive promptly for all instructional activities, including lectures, labs, and scheduled sessions.
- Deliver course material in a clear, organized, and understandable manner.
- Address student questions, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner through class interaction, office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate channels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree with 18 or more graduate hours in History from a regionally accredited institution.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency with instructional and academic technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to teach students from a wide range of ages and academic backgrounds, including high school students enrolled in dual credit courses.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong work ethic with a demonstrated commitment to professionalism and reliability.
- Commitment to teaching excellence and continuous improvement in instructional practices.
