Description

Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented research professional to support faculty research on terrorism, extremism, and global security issues. This temporary position is intended for individuals who have completed a Master's degree in a relevant field and have prior academic research experience. The successful candidate will assist in monitoring news outlets, academic publications, and policy reports; compiling and analyzing findings; and contributing substantively to ongoing research projects.

Examples of Duties

  • Track and review current news articles, policy reports, and academic publications related to terrorism, extremist organizations, and counterterrorism efforts.
  • Summarize, analyze, and synthesize findings into clear, well-organized research briefs and reports.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of relevant news items, incidents, and scholarly sources.
  • Provide background research, literature reviews, and fact-checking support for faculty projects, presentations, and publications.
  • Assist with drafting research materials, annotated bibliographies, and supporting documentation as needed.
  • Adhere to ethical research guidelines and handle sensitive content with professionalism and discretion.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field is required

Experience:

  • Demonstrated research experience at the graduate level or in a professional research setting.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and synthesis skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines with careful attention to detail.
  • Experience reviewing sensitive or challenging content in a professional and academic context.
  • Familiarity with academic databases, research tools, citation management software, and major media outlets.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Highly organized, dependable, and proactive.

Supplemental Information

Temporary employees are employees who are hired to work at the university for a specified period of time, typically 90 days or less but no longer than six months. Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits and should not work more than 20 hours per week. Temporary employees will report hours worked on a timesheet in UKG. Temporary employees can not work more than 30 hours per week.

  • Part-time benefits-eligible positions: Benefits include generous education assistance for the employee.
  • Temporary, adjunct, student employment, or graduate assistant positions: Benefits are not included.
