Horticulture and Small Farms Advisor (AP 25-12)
The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Horticulture and Small Farms Advisor at the Assistant Rank, serving Placer and Nevada Counties. This position focuses on the commercial organic and conventional production and marketing of annual crops, orchard crops (including citrus), grapes (wine and table), berries, cut flowers, and other horticultural crops. Key areas include production practices, irrigation and nutrient management, soil health, integrated pest management, small farm economics, business strategies, and mitigating climate change impacts.
Responsibilities involve applied research and extension activities to address community challenges. This includes individual consultations, workshops, field demonstrations, and disseminating information via fact sheets, newsletters, and social media. The advisor will be headquartered in Auburn, CA, and work with stakeholders in Placer and Nevada Counties, serving approximately 1,000 specialty crop farmers, many of whom are beginning farmers.
Qualifications: A minimum of a master's degree in horticultural production, pest management, soil science, agroecology, or small farm economics is required. Candidates should have experience in applied research, educational programming, and program management. Additional skills include strong communication, collaboration, and the ability to work with diverse communities.
Salary and Benefits: The salary range is from $82,900 to $105,200 annually. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, holidays, and sabbatical leave privileges.
